Rehabilitation Services at CHI St. Alexius Health include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. The services are designed to accommodate the unique needs of patients of all ages requiring rehabilitative care.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy is a healthcare profession concerned with the development, recovery and maintenance of daily living activities. Occupational therapy may include education, exercises, and the use of devices which compensate for permanent loss of function.
Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is a healthcare profession concerned with maximizing movement and function that has been impaired by injury, surgery, or medial conditions. Physical therapy may include education, exercises, treatment modalities and other interventions. Physical therapy provides care for a wide range of medical conditions.
Speech-language pathologists at CHI St. Alexius Health evaluate and treat patients of all ages (infant through geriatrics) to address speech, language, cognitive, voice and/or swallowing difficulties.
Occupational therapists are highly trained in specialty areas:
- Customized treatment programs focusing on strength, coordination, range of motion and other deficit areas
- Apartment stays to help patients and families simulate a home environment to prepare for discharge to home
- Activities of daily living focusing on increasing independence with self-cares
- Upper extremity strength, coordination, sensory, range of motion testing
- Splinting for various upper extremity needs
- Adaptive equipment training

- Cognitive activities to address problem-solving, safety awareness, money management and memory

CHI St. Alexius Health’s Pediatric Therapy Services is dedicated to children and their families. We utilize a team approach for the treatment of neurological, orthopedic and genetic disorders, as well as problems associated with premature birth and developmental delays. Our team includes occupational, physical, and speech therapists who work closely with a child’s physician. Our goal is to assist each child to live the fullest life possible by enhancing function and promoting independence through therapeutic programming.
Occupational therapy addresses a variety of concerns that may arise throughout the development of your child.

Physical therapy focuses on gross and fine motor skills, strength and endurance, balance and coordination and sensory processing and integration.

Speech-language pathologists work with children of all ages. For example, infants and toddlers may receive speech therapy if they have feeding and swallowing problems or need assistance in developing verbal communication. Preschool children also may require extra help to learn basic skills, such as communicating wants and needs. School-age children go to speech therapy to learn how to correct articulation errors and improve language skills.

FREE Screening
CHI St. Alexius Health offers a free screening, by appointment, for children newborns to age 21. A typical screening session takes approximately 20 minutes. The purpose of the screening is not to diagnose a disorder, but identify areas of concern and need for possible evaluation. Please contact Rehabilitation Services’ receptionist at 701.530.8200 at least two days in advance of when your child would be available for a screening. If a formal evaluation is recommended, please contact your insurance provider for information regarding your benefits and coverage.
