Intensive Care Units at CHI St. Alexius Health provide care to critically ill patients who need constant observation. Our ICUs are staffed by hospitalists or intensivists - physicians trained specifically in the care of critically ill patients, who spend the majority of their time in the intensive care unit.
Visiting hours and protocols will vary by location. Please check with nursing staff at your location for more detailed information if your loved one is being cared for in the intensive care unit.
Respiratory Therapy
The ICU Respiratory Therapy (RT) Core Team is a specialized group who has received additional training specific to ICU. All ICU Respiratory Therapists are Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certified.
ICU RT aspects include mechanical ventilation management, Diagnostic testing (drawing and reporting blood gas values), hemodynamic monitoring, airway management and all general treatments and procedures. The ICU RT is a member of the multidisciplinary critical care Rapid Response Team that responds to all emergent calls within the medical center. The ICU RT also assists with transporting critical ill patients for treatment/procedures that cannot be done at bedside.
