The Stroke Center at CHI St. Alexius Health is one of the first centers of its kind in North Dakota. New drugs, advanced surgical techniques and innovative interventional procedures are among the new medical options available to improve a patient’s chance for optimal recovery. The center, founded in 1999, brings together the expertise of specialists in different areas in order to provide our patients with the benefits from a collaborative team approach. The team includes: neurologists, neurosurgeons, interventional radiologists, emergency medicine, rehabilitation specialists, hospitalists and intensivists, as well as physical, occupational and speech therapists, and a dedicated nursing staff.

Stroke Care Technology
CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck was the first hospital in the region capable of providing clot removal procedures for stroke patients using a procedure called Thrombectomy. Interventional radiologists have up to 6 hours to perform Thrombectomy on a stroke patient to remove a blood clot under image-guided techniques. CHI St. Alexius Health Bismarck is the only hospital in the state to offer the most advanced brain imaging software platform, iSchemaView’s RAPID™, giving stroke patients an expanded treatment window up to 24 hours.
Telestroke
The stroke team in Bismarck currently uses telestroke services 24/7 for any patient presenting with acute stroke symptoms. The physicians arrive on screen within 10 minutes of notification. They are able to perform a full assessment and patient interview using In Touch technology. They can also communicate with the emergency team on screen. They have access to electronic medical records and all CT scans to make quick decisions. Use of telestroke services helps quickly treat and manage stroke for the best patient outcomes.
